Designed for effective, everyday classroom and study use, the books are extremely practical, Sections are colour-coded with icons for quick reference, and page numbers are tabbed and highly-visible. Texts are provided with line numbers for ease of use in class and study time, and individual vocabulary references and quotations within glossaries and tasks are cross-referenced with line numbers in each case. The language and phraseology used reflects the latest O level English specification, making for a smooth and clear transition for both teachers and students when revising and applying learning and practice to the final examination assessments.
Each book contains 10 strikingly-themed units, including a dedicated examination practice section. Within each unit are clusters of Reading texts offering varied perspectives on the unit topic, and an array of supporting sections of Glossary, Expression, Vocabulary, Grammar, Discussion, and Writing materials and tasks, detailed below.
Reading texts include: articles, blogs, brochures, debates, editorials, emails, essays,
eyewitness accounts, food writing, forums, guides, interviews, journals, letters, memoirs, monologues, novels, playscripts, poetry, reports, reviews, short stories, travel writing, and webpages, often in more than one form. They cover a diverse range of cultural experience, purposes and language styles, and have been shaped to resemble the length and nature of examination texts, and meet and exceed the reading Experience requirements of the syllabus.
Glossaries keep a sharp eye on the panoply of new and distinctive vocabulary items students are exposed to across the units. Meanings in context are given, as well as word class form and function information, and any necessary commentary on contemporary usage.
